WINTER BARLEY
KWS CARNEVAL
KWS CASSIA Barley
KWS INFINITY Barley
KWS TOWER Barley

KWS CARNEVAL Barley

Florentine x (california x Glacier). New 2-row variety from KWS UK. Good yield potential - similar to Tower / Infinity. Second best variety on KPH in offi cial trials 2016 and 2017 @ 68.2 KPH average. Equalled Cassia on scores for node break / brackling - an improvement over Tower and Infi nity. Moderately susceptible to mildew, but shows good resistance to both rhyncho (7) and net blotch (7). Tillers very well, produce high yields of straw. Candidate variety for DAFM recommendation in autumn 2018.

KWS CASSIA Barley

(Eden x Carat) x Saffron. Remains Irelands most widely sown winter barley, still very popular with growers who know Cassia is a highly consistent and reliable variety, despite its lowly yield ranking on the Rec List. Typically, growers claim very good on-farm yields and Cassia is still the undisputed top variety for quality grain - KPH on Irish Rec List = 69.8 (highest rating). Cassia is good on Net Blotch and Brown Rust, but is prone to rhyncho and particularly mildew. Also being used as roasting barley in breweries. Very high TGW (58 - 60g). 2-Row Variety.

KWS INFINITY Barley

KWS Cassia x Retriever. 2-Row Variety Also from KWS UK, now the second most widely grown variety in Ireland. Highest yielding 2-row on the 2018 Irish Rec List with a yield rating of 101. Good lodging resistance (7) but moderately susceptible
to straw breakdown (6). Good resistance to rhyncho (7), brown rust (7), and net blotch (7). Moderately susceptible to mildew (5). Resistant to Barley Mosaic Virus. Good bushel weight (67.6 KPH) with very high TGW also (58.1) - high seed rate needed!

KWS TOWER Barley

Saffron x Retriever. 2-Row Variety Remains popular with growers looking to chase top yields with 2-row barley in a high input system. Higher yields than Cassia (+3% on 2018 Rec List) with better disease resistance, especially on rhynchosporium and mildew. Excellent straw strength (7) and similar on breakdown to Infi nity. KPH about 2 - 2.5 points below KWS Cassia. Very high TGW (60g), so high seed rates are required.

SPRING BARLEY
RGT PLANET Barley
PAUSTIAN Barley

RGT PLANET Barley

Tamtam x Concerto. Exciting new malting / feeding barley from RAGT that is the highest yielding candidate variety up for recommendation in spring 2017. Its also appears to have broad appeal and merit, showing promise on every continent around the globe and being commercially grown in over 43 countries at this early stage. Very high yield potential - average 106% of controls in 2 years of DAFM Trials. Straw strength similar to Propino and offers good disease resistance. Now approved by Diageo and Heineken for brewing in Ireland, and in production for malting barley now by both MCI and Boortmalt.

PAUSTIAN Barley

Zeppelin x Propino. High yielding feed variety from Sejet in Denmark. Both grain yields and quality are on par with Propino but Paustian has a stronger overall agronomic package offering (a) superior straw strength and node break resistance, (b) better disease resistance scoring higher on mildew (8), rhyncho (7), brown rust (7) and net blotch (6). Displays good early vigour after sowing and also copes well with stress in cold spring weather. Late maturing, similar to Taberna.
