WINTER WHEAT
KWS LILI Wheat
ROCKEFELLER Wheat
AVATAR Wheat
LUMOS Wheat

KWS LILI Wheat

KWS Horizon x CPBT W134. Candidate variety for recommendation in 2015 following 2 successful years in Irish trials in 2013 + 2014. Group 2 type, similar to Cordiale. Very high yield potential combined with good disease resistance and excellent straw strength. Medium to late maturing, with very good grain quality and high HFN. Suited to both early and late drilling slots.

ROCKERFELLER Wheat

Skalmeje x Kredo. Exciting new variety that offers exceptional disease resistance combined with high yields and good grain quality. Very good septoria (7), rust (9) and mildew (9) resistance. Also good on fusarium (7). Tal strawed but with good lodging resistance. Can be drilled across a wide sowing window and in any rotational position. Strong candidate for recommendation in 2015.

AVATAR Wheat

Istabraq x Lion. Joint-highest yielding variety on the current Irish Rec List (106). Good all-round disease resistance package except for mildew. Would also appear to be strong on fusarium. Can be sown early (slow developing) but has only average tillering capacity. Despite this, it produced the top yields in early sown trials for past 3 years. Tall strawed and stiff, very dark green in appearance. Late maturing. Can be grown as first or second wheat. Good grain quality.

LUMOS Wheat

Cordiale x Dover. Now fully recommended by DAFM. High yielding (102) and similar in type to Cordiale with excellent resistance to lodging (8) and good resistance to disease, especially mildew (8) and yellow rust (8). Very consistent both in trials and on-farm. Early maturing with excellent grain quality similar to Cordiale. Not ideally suited to early sowing but can be sown anytime from 1st October through to mid-February.

JB DIEGO Wheat

3353b1 x Stru2374. Biggest selling variety sown for past three seasons with over 50% market share in 2014. Has performed well both commercially and in trials, delivering good yields in almost every rotational position, and proving itself to be quite versatile. Suited to both early and late drilling slots. Good straw and good grain quality. Moderately good resistance to septoria with good resistance to sprouting. Medium-late maturing.

SPRING WHEAT
QUINTUS Wheat
DOUBLESHOT Wheat
SPARROW Wheat

QUINTUS Wheat

(LW 093W015-3 x LW 096SW35) x ZE 99Z531-28. QUINTUS spring wheat retains its No.1 position as the highest yielding spring wheat variety with a relative rating of 105 vs Sparrow @ 102. 2015 was the first year that Goldcrop were able to offer Irish growers commercial seed of QUINTUS and the positive feedback we have received from growers about the variety was widespread. Not only is it high yielding, this bearded wheat also ripens early, has good disease resistance and good grain quality. It also shows good resistance to fusarium, a key trait which can be so useful in Ireland, especially in wet summers.

RGT DOUBLESHOT Wheat

Josselin x Pasteur. RGT DOUBLESHOT is also highly rated on the new spring wheat list with a relative yield of 102. It comes in as the top variety for quality grain, delivering the highest KPH (77.8), highest protein (11.6%), and highest hagberg falling number (340). These quality attributes make RGT DOUBLESHOT a first choice milling wheat which also exhibits good overall agronomic traits, thus making it easy to grow and manage.

SPARROW Wheat

(Chablis x Status) x Chablis. SPARROW may appear to be outclassed by the newer and higher yielding varieties, but this old reliable still retains the best rating for straw strength, and is certainly a good choice on very fertile sites where lodging risk is high. It also holds very good grain quality along with good resistance to sprouting and good resistance to disease. It is a later maturing type so it’s best to sow SPARROW early if at all possible.
