WINTER
AVATAR Wheat
LUMOS Wheat
LION Wheat
CORDIALE Wheat
JB DIEGO Wheat

AVATAR Wheat

Istabraq x Lion. Joint-highest yielding variety on the current Irish Rec List (105). Good all-round disease resistance package except for mildew. Would also appear to be strong on fusarium. Can be sown early (slow developing) but has only average tillering capacity. Despite this, it produced the top yields in early sown trials for past 2 years. Tall strawed and stiff, very dark green in appearance. Late maturing. Can be grown as first or second wheat. Good grain quality.

LUMOS Wheat

Cordiale x Dover. New variety from KWS (UK) that offers about 5% more yield than Cordiale with improved septoria resistance and equal straw strength. Very consistent both in trials and on-farm. Early maturing with excellent grain quality similar to Cordiale. Not ideally suited to early sowing but can be sown anytime from 1st October through to mid-February. Added to the Irish Rec List in 2014 with 103 for yield and excellent agronomic scores across all traits.

LION Wheat

Claire x Wasmo.
Now a well established variety, still capable of delivering a good result across a range of rotational positions. Solid performer with good septoria (7) resistance. Prone to mildew and also needs attention for yellow rust. Tall strawed but stiff. Late maturing.

CORDIALE Wheat

(Reaper x Cadenza) x Malacca. The only fully approved milling wheat for winter sowings. Cordiale is still the preferred milling variety used by Odlums and is also very popular across the UK. Very reliable variety, with good yields, great straw strength. Early maturing, with excellent grain quality - high KPH, high Protein, high HFN with very good sprouting resistance. Suitable for all rotational positions, can drill early or late. Needs a robust fungicide programme for septoria control.

JB DIEGO Wheat

3353b1 x Stru2374. Biggest selling variety sown for past three seasons with over 50% market share in 2014. Has performed well both commercially and in trials, delivering good yields in almost every rotational position, and proving itself to be quite versatile. Suited to both early and late drilling slots. Good straw and good grain quality. Moderately good resistance to septoria with good resistance to sprouting. Medium-late maturing.

SPRING
DOUBLESHOT Wheat
SPARROW Wheat
QUINTUS Wheat

SPARROW Wheat

(Chablis x Status) x Chablis. Most popular variety sown for past 3 years with over 60% market share in 2014. Extremely consistent performer producing high yields of good quality year-on-year. Short stiff straw, very good lodging resistance. Late maturing. Good Hagberg and sprouting resistance. Produces a flour of good breadmaking quality.

QUINTUS Wheat

(LW 093W015-3 x LW 096SW35) x ZE 99Z531-28. Highest yielding candidate variety in RL trials for past 2 years, on average 7% ahead of Sparrow. Dutch-bred, bearded variety with totally new genetic line. Moderately suceptible to lodging so needs a good PGR programme including Moddus / CeroneShows strong resistance to mildew and fusarium. Early maturing with good specific weight (75 KPH) of feed quality.

DOUBLESHOT Wheat

Josselin x Pasteur. High performing milling quality variety from RAGT in France. Candidate variety for recommendation in 2015. Yields in Irish RL trials to date place it slightly ahead of Sparrow. Very good variety to tiller. Average mildew resistance but good on septoria, rusts and fusarium. Moderately suceptible to lodging so needs a good PGR programme including Moddus / Cerone. Excellent grain quality (78+ KPH) with low TGW.
