MORE PROTEIN, MORE PROGRESS

One of the targets of faba-bean breeders is to raise the protein content of the bean itself, thus making it more efficient to produce and hopefully more competitive against imported alternatives such as soybean and maize distillers.

The more native protein we can produce per hectare from a crop of beans, the better it is for the end user, for the grower and for the environment.

The new EU Protein Aid scheme (which also falls in under the ambitions of the Farm 2 Fork strategy) clearly targets a higher production of native-grown protein across the member states. Ireland alone is a huge importer of protein crop feeds so anything we can do to improve our self-sufficiency in this regard must be encouraged.

✔︎ PROTINA is a new variety of spring bean that not only has been bred to produce high grain yields, but it also will produce more kilos of

crude protein per hectare, thus making it a more efficient variety at converting atmospheric N into native-grown protein.

✔︎ PROTINA has a strong agronomic profile which includes excellent early vigour, good lodging & brackling resistance and medium-early maturity, together with a really robust disease resistance profile which includes chocolate spot, downy mildew and bean rust.
