Bred by Secobra and newly added to the Recommended List for 2026, Hurler moves the yield potential of spring barley in Ireland to a new level; it is the joint highest yielding variety on the list at 106% of controls.
Hurler is a high performing feed barley with excellent agronomic ratings that literally “support” this high yield – It’s resistance to lodging rating of 7 is not surpassed by any other recommended variety and it has a very good Straw Breakdown rating of 6.
In addition to it’s Straw qualities, Hurler has excellent disease resistance ratings – it’s scores for Mildew (8), Rhyncosporium (8), Brown Rust (6) and Net Blotch (8) create an average score for disease that is not surpassed by any other variety on the Recommended List.
To top it off, Hurler has a large grain size (TGW 56.4g) and a good KPH of 67.3 KPH which make it ideal for processing as rolled barley.
